Dog Agility Course

Agility competitions are really popular in the USA, they’re held in almost every major city. If you plan on entering your dog in one, you might want to know about what time and money commitment completion of such a dog agility course takes. Once you’re up to training your dog to take all the obstacles, you might as well have fun doing it.

A dog agility course is a set of obstacles designed to avoid dog injuries while simulating everyday items. Some are not so common while others resemble everyday household furniture. Completing such a course requires discipline on your dog’s part, time and patience on yours.

Starting out with training doesn’t cost as much as some people would think, but you’re definitely looking at $50 to $200 in fees just for a registration to a competition. Second biggest money hog is buying all the equipment you need to train your pet. The basic training consists of obedience training and the individual elements therefore you can start out with no money at all.

Once your dog listens to what have to say, a set of bars and jump standard needs to be bought. Once your dog is able to jump the bars he’s going to gain confidence and build up a certain amount agility and flexibility.

That’s a great time to move on to other obstacles, such as table and ball, or see-saw that build upon that confidence. Every time he does well, remember to give a reward. That’s how the dog is going to form a connection between doing well on your scale and food. Once this connection is there, you can ask anything from your pet.

Dog agility courses require a lot of running and jumping, and you’re likely to run around with the dog as he goes from obstacle to obstacle. Consider including a light cardio or aerobic exercise during the mornings to get in shape, because an hour long training session will most likely drain your energies at first.  Agility Training for Dogs is a great resource to read more about agility courses and other dog agility related information.
