Poor Credit Home Loans After Bankruptcy

If you have filed for bankruptcy, you probably know that it is going to take some work to get yourself in the position that you can own a home again.  This is especially true if your bankruptcy also involved a home foreclosure.  The good news is that while it will take time and hard work, you can own a home again.

One of the most important factors in getting a poor credit mortgage is that you begin the credit restoration process right away.  You probably know that it is going to take between two or three years for you to be eligible for loan approval and it can be tempting to put things of and procrastinate!  Don’t!  You need to begin working on reestablishing your credibility as soon as possible.

Start by reviewing your credit report and making sure that everything is reporting accurately.  Chances are you will be quite surprised to find numerous creditors that are still reporting your accounts as being open and active even though they were included in your bankruptcy.  These negative accounts will drag your credit score down even further than it should be, so it is critical that you correct them at once.

You also need to begin to think about reestablishing your credit history.  Learning how to fix credit is really not all that difficult.  The first place to start is with a secured credit card.  You may also get a bank that is willing to give you a loan using a certificate of deposit as collateral.  Be sure to make your payments on time!

After a few months, you should begin to get some pre-approved offers in the mail for unsecured credit cards that are designed for people that have bad credit.  You need to read through the offers carefully and select the best one.  While you do want to reestablish your credit, it is a good idea to only have three or four cards total.
