A couple areas of the house that don’t usually get a visual makeover are the kitchen and the bathroom. When we are designing our house or decorating it to give it more life we can go wild on all the other rooms. The living room, media room, den, and bedrooms will get the most attention. Rooms such as the kitchen and bathroom are arranged for their utility functions. These rooms need to be setup in a way that facilitates function more than they need to be pretty.
One thing we can do to help liven up these rooms is in our choice of tiles. Choosing to put down ceramic floor tile in the bathroom or kitchen can add color and texture to these otherwise stale areas. A ceramic tile is strong and easy to clean. This makes them wonderful for high traffic areas. They are even great when used in the foyer of the house. Ceramic tiles come in a variety of shapes and colors so finding one that matches your décor won’t be difficult.
Don’t let the artistic thinking be limited by just ceramic tile though. There are many different materials that can be used. Glass, metal and wood tiles can make a great decorative countertop or a tile kitchen backsplash. They can come in a variety of patterns or colors that can complement the rest of the house. The different colored tiles themselves can be placed together in interesting ways to create your own unique pattern making your kitchen or bathroom stand out.
Another great benefit of colored tile or patterns is they don’t show stains as well. Most kitchens will have light colored flooring or countertop and this can magnify any spills and stains that may have occurred in the past. Tile that have patterns or are darker in color are less likely to show the wear and tear that lighter colored tile will. This isn’t an excuse to not clean the kitchen or bathroom as needed but it can help to retain the tiles new look longer.
Using tile in the bathroom and kitchen is a great way to spruce up these areas that are otherwise left untouched. Mixing and matching colors can create interesting patterns and add to the unique flavor of your home.
