Why Families Love Their Dog Kennel

A dog kennel may seem like a strange thing to love but once you have owned one you soon become aware of all the benefits to both your dog and the family and once you have realised their potential you would never have a dog without one again.  There are quite a few ways in which dog kennels make your life easier and these will be discussed in more detail.

A kennel is often called a dog home for a very good reason.  Once your dog has become accustomed to his kennel he will view it as his own personal home.  A place where he can get some peace and quiet and relax, away from any noise or confusion going on in the house.  Dog behaviour experts recommend kennels as a way to keep your dog calm and to reduce separation anxiety when you are away from home.  An outdoor dog kennel can also be used to send your dog to if you need him out from under your feet while you get the household chores done or if you want him kept away from nervous guests.  Just remember, never use your kennel as a form of punishment or your dog will begin to have bad associations with it and not want to go there anymore.

Another benefit is in helping to house train a new puppy.  Dogs naturally don’t want to soil the area in which they sleep so by keeping the puppy in his kennel with an attached puppy pen he will try his best to hold on until you take him outside to relieve himself.  Do remember to do this regularly though as otherwise he won’t be able to help himself having an accident.

If you have a dog cage style kennel outside then another use is as a safe place for your dog to get some exercise.  These kennels tend to be large enough for the dog to run around and play in but will stop him from escaping the back garden and getting lost or hurt.
